Campo San Giacomo dall’Orio is one of the last Venetian campi with a life of its own. In the morning people cross it on the way to school, in the afternoon it belongs to the children, at the hour of the ombra it fills with tables.
Around it is everything needed in order to live: the baker, the greengrocer, two bacari worth the journey, a supermarket around the corner. And, twelve minutes on foot, the Rialto market.
It is a Venice you cross on foot, without ever taking a vaporetto unless you want to. And one that, in the evening, gives the silence back.
